montana truck camper rally july 11-14 2013

The 2013 Montana Truck Camper Rally was great fun. The location for the rally was at Glacier Campground. The campground is 1 mile from West Glacier Montana, the west gateway to Glacier National Park. The campground gave us one whole area for the rally. That made it very nice for us all to be grouped together. The campground is a very wooded place with power and water hookups. There is a dump station next to the lodge.

There were a few people who showed up a day or two before the rally but this trip report will talk about the official dates for it, July 11-14 2013.

July 11th.

No plans were scheduled this day as people were arriving at different times. By mid evening everyone had shown up for it. A total of 21 truck campers made this rally. Old, new, with slides, without slides, this brand and that one. It did not matter, they were all truck campers and we were there to have fun.  We all gathered around the site that was a designated gathering spot.

On Friday morning a bunch of us went on a hike in glacier to Avalanche Lake. We had a large group this year making the trek to this beautiful place. The hike was park ranger lead and she shared a lot of interesting facts about the area along the way.

Some of the people in these pictures are not in our group but we definitely made up the vast majority.

After we got back to the campground Joanne (the mrs. tc life) gathered all the kids and did a craft. What they did this year was use fabric markers and decorated fabric bags. They enjoyed it a lot.

Later that evening we gathered again for a couple games. Then we were treated with some songs from Bob and Judy. That was a real treat for sure. Afterwards we enjoyed each others company.

Saturday morning was red bus tour day. We had two red buses reserved for our group. We did a 3 1/2 hour tour that went from Lake McDonald lodge to the top of the Going To The Sun Road and back again.

After the red bus tour it was time for the potluck dinner. We had such wonderful food to eat and plenty of it. I know I was not the only one who may have overstuffed themselves with deliciousness.

After dinner we handed out prizes to rally attendees. We had a lot of them to hand out. The very last prize was a real special one. Bonnie had made a quilt complete with truck campers on it. A big thank you to her for that.

After the prize giveaway we talked and enjoyed our company with each other. Tomorrow was the last day of the rally.

July 14th

Sunday morning brought us the last day of the rally. We put on a farewell breakfast that included pancakes, sausage and scrambled eggs. I tell you this group was hungry because we ran out of eggs but others came in and rescued us by donating more eggs.

After everyone had their breakfast they began to pack up and leave. It is a sad moment to see our friends leave for their home or to continue the trips they are on. We had such a wonderful time meeting everyone and we hope to see them again sometime.
