fall festival 9/3 – 9/7 2015

Fall Festival, Schweitzer Mountain Sandpoint Idaho 2016

It was time again to enjoy the Labor Day Weekend at Schweitzer Mountain Resort for the annual Fall Festival. This would be our fourth year in a row attending this very fun event. This year we would be able to enjoy the activities with friends from Washington and Canada, who also belong to the truck camper club NATCOA. The weather ended up being the coldest weekend we have had for the event. Rain, very cold rain and some winds made its arrival for all. No matter what mother nature could bring, the party went on.

We arrived at the resort after work and our friends were already there. We parked next to our friends from Canada and next to some local peoples trailer. Our other friends brought a 5th wheel to test out for a future trip to Alaska. So their camper was back at home. The weather today was nice with a bit of wind. All there was to do was relax, socialize and enjoy our surroundings. The event does not start until Saturday.

The night went by as well as the warmer temperature. It got down to the low 40’s for the night. The next day did bring some sunshine but yes, there was a change to come and you could feel it. We slept great in the camper, the heater got some work out since last winter. Our friends in the 5th wheel did not fare as well. It seems the batteries gave out. That was fixed with a trip down the mountain and into town to get two new batteries. After that, all was well. Today was another day of relaxation and just simply hanging out. The parking lot started to fill up with other RV’s coming to attend the festivities. Tomorrow was the kick off for the Fall Festival. We were anxious to attend.

Another day and night goes by, our friends batteries worked great and they stayed warm too. Saturday, first day of the festival. The weather was rainy and cold. Time to get out the warmer clothes and rain gear. We would not let the weather stop us. There were bands to listen to at the main stage and beer to try out along with lots of food to choose from.

We all had a good time on the first day of the festival. Sure it would have been nice if it was warmer and drier but it is what it is. The festival ended at 6 pm and it was back to the camper. We had our dinner and then did miles and miles of hiking and exercise… okay okay…one of those things is true. What will the next day bring?

The next day brought larger crowds and more rain and wind. The fun times kept rolling in also. Day two of the fall fest!

We had a great time but looked forward to warming up back at camp. We were thankful to have pop up tents where we could stay dry and with the the little propane campfire we could be a bit warmer.

Monday morning, the last day of the festival. The weather, seems that is a big part of the story as I tell it…was better. We laughed that the following weekend it was suppose to be back in the 80’s. Oh well, what can you do? Today two fantastic bands would play. Rust On The Rails followed by Hells Belles. WOW! They were really great and shows you don’t want to miss. Our friends from Canada had to leave in the morning, it was great to see them both again.

So we took our chairs back up to the courtyard and filled our cups with great beer. There was a 20% chance of rain today, we mentioned that as it poured rain. Rain gear on and our chairs put in a dry place, no problems. Later that day Cody did the zip line, first time for him. He enjoyed it he said and wanted to do it again. After the last band played the Fall Festival was officially over for this year. Sure the weather this year was not the best but it was a great time no matter. What could be better then spending time with friends?

A great time was had. We are already looking forward to next year, our 5th year in a row. It is so much fun and we will not miss it. The sun did come out at the end of the festival, reminding us how great the weather can be up on Schweitzer Mountain.

    • 12 feet tall at the highest point. that is the vent cover in the back over the bathroom vent. i always say its an optical illusion because it does look taller. ive even got out a tape measure to show someone who thought it was taller.
