Wine Tour May 4 – 8 2016
It was finally time to head to Prosser Washington for the Wine Tour Rally at Wine Country RV Park. We arrived a day earlier because, well…we wanted to. It just so happened to be my birthday and celebrating it by having fun out with the camper was a great way to do it. The drive to Prosser was good with no issues, about a 2 1/2 hour drive for us. We arrived at the RV Park and got the camper set up. The RV Park then gave us a ride to Whitstran Brewery, they new it was my birthday and were very kind in giving Joanne and I a ride and then picked us up when we were ready.
At the brewery we enjoyed a taster flight of the beers they had available and then had some lunch, they have great food there. The woman working there then said “we have something for you, Ill be right back”. She went to the back and brought out a cake box. I opened the box and there was an amazing cake with a picture of our camper on the top. The RV Park had made a birthday cake for me and had it waiting at the brewery for us, they knew we would be going there. I was so surprised and so very appreciative of the thought. I was really blown away. That cake was absolutely delicious too!
We made our call for the ride back and thanked them for the cake and the ride. Joanne and I then went for a swim in the pool at the RV Park and relaxed the rest of the day away.
The next morning people would start arriving for the Rally through out the day. In the morning we drove to nearby Grandview for breakfast at a cafe and then to the grocery store. We also found a couple geocaches while we were in town and one of them took us to a little park.
We got our groceries and then returned to Wine Country RV Park. Rally attendees started to arrive. The day happened to be Cinco De Mayo and even though I never do anything for the day we still had to eat dinner so why not have a taco night and margaritas? We still have to eat right? So that is exactly what we did, a pot luck Mexican dinner night. I think I had 6 tacos or was that three “small” margaritas…or was it both? I do not remember but we had a great time.
The next day some of us would travel around to a few wineries to do wine tasting. This rally is a laid back go at your own pace rally. Some of us would travel together while others would head out on their own. We had a fantastic time taking our time at the wineries. Sitting back enjoying life and what it brings is what it is about. We played a game of Bocce ball at a winery where yes, the guys won. The ladies would say the only wine they wanted was from grapes and not from us because we lost.
For dinner that night some of us had a group reservation at Wine O clock Restaurant. The food there is excellent and the company was even better. It was a three hour dinner and I enjoyed every minute of it. Dinners like that are an event and not a quick in and out.
The night finished up back at the RV Park. On Saturday we went to the farmers market in town and a couple antique stores. We found a great book and then three beer signs for the 238 brewery back home. We then went to Whitstran Brewery for lunch. Other rally attendees ended up joining us too. After the brewery lunch we parked our campers back at the RV Park and walked to the nearby wineries to do more tastings. Some of us did a bit more than tasting in what is called drinking but I am not pointing any fingers. We had a lot of laughs. The night would finish off with the potluck dinner, trivia questions and a campfire. What a wonderful day it was.
Sunday morning would be the farewell breakfast. I always look forward to the breakfast but it is bitter sweet as it is the end of the rally. After the breakfast everyone packed up and headed to where ever they were going next. Some left earlier. We all said our goodbyes and looked forward to our next gathering.
Joanne and I would take our time heading home. We stopped at a couple other wineries and had lunch at one of them.
After the lunch it was time to get home. Another fabulous time at Wine Country RV Park with friends. This was our third year doing this rally. I did announce that I will not be hosting a rally in 2017 but we did make reservations for next year. We will arrive on May 4th 2017 and leave the following Sunday. So maybe not a rally but still more fun and laughs to be expected.
