fugitives 5/14-15 2016

Now that I caught your attention with a title like that, this trip report is actually three trips in one report. The first one, the fugitives part was our trip up to Colville Washington for a geocache event. We worked on Friday night so a real early morning on Saturday found us driving north of town to Colville. We would stay the night at the Colville fairgrounds right in town to park the camper. There are several RV sites and some had full hookups for $25 a night. It was a perfect choice for us since the geocache event we were to attend would start at a park in town too. The RV parking is just that, RV parking and it is not a campground. The bathrooms and showers are only for the RV guests and we found them clean and in great shape. We got the camper parked and hooked up then jumped in the van to go to the starting point for the event at the park.

The main park in town is a beautiful place. We have never stopped by the park and commented many times to each other how nice it was. We took our dogs for a walk around the park while waiting for the event to start. The geocache event would send us to two different directions from town to find several caches. The search was very fun and had a lot of creative cache containers. There were several other geocachers attending the event and it ended up that we would follow a couple friends on our tour.

While on one of the stops to find a geocache we all wanted to get out of the van to find the treasure. It was hot enough that we could not leave the dogs in the van alone with windows up and the van shut off. So we left the van running with the air conditioning on. We found the cache quickly and returned to the van to find a window down and two dogs missing. Yep, the dogs hit the right button to roll the window down and two of them jumped out for a walk in the woods. The fugitives. We ended up finding the two escapees then continued on our geocache searches. This time with Joanne staying in the van.

The rest of the day was a lot of fun. There was another incident with the van of me not remembering that the emergency brake didn’t work and I used it. Lots of fun getting that undone let me tell you.  In the end all was good and the event ended back at the park. We went to dinner with friends at a local restaurant then headed back to the camper to relax before calling it a day and went to bed.

The next day we set out to find more geocaches in town before leaving to go home. We had a nice morning and found some neat places.

We returned to the camper and got things set to return home. It would be another work week before our next trip. Diamond.

After our work week we would set our destination for the weekend at Little Diamond Lake KOA. Diamonds. While I am not a huge fan of KOA Kamgrounds not all are created equal. The fact the we had a free night of camping when we pay for a night made going there a pretty good option. This KOA is spread out, way out over lots of acreage. The sites are big and very wooded. Not bad at all. The only issue I had upon our arrival is they treat you like you are some new RV’er who doesn’t know a damn thing. They go over the rules and all that and then you follow them to the site, that is fine. When we arrived at our site I got out and said I will pull in forward because I wanted my door out towards the front of the site. I said running my water line and power cord underneath is no big deal. Oh my, you though it was going to collapse the universe of all order. I was told that they have it set for back ins so the utilities are on the correct side. I then said, “we have a truck camper so we CAN park in many different configurations, that is one reason why we love a camper”. I got a blank stare and she drove off in her golf cart. So yes, I then pulled forward into my back in site.

We got our things set up and we were ready for rain that was in the forecast. We have popups and a little rain does not stop us from anything. If you have read my blog you know that weather is just a “thing” for us. We enjoyed the night and had a great nights sleep.

The next day we would head up to the recreation center and play a few games and do some crafts. Cody found a rubber chicken that was hidden by the staff that earned him a free ice cream for later that day. That is one thing that is always great about the KOA Kampgrounds, lots of things for kids to do.

One of the great features of this place is the small lake on the property. There are trails around the lake and even great fishing in the lake. We did not have time to get our kayak out on the lake this weekend, I was kind of bummed about that.

A while later on Saturday we drove to a brewery (yes Cody, “another brewery”) that was nearby. Top Frog Brewery was where we went. We had a great time talking to the owner and brew master at the brewery and took three full growlers back with us to enjoy at camp.

We returned to camp and stopped at the recreation room once again but this time for ice cream. We had our fill and returned to the camper. We relaxed outside then went inside to play some dominoes. The night drifted by with the sound of rain pattering on the roof of the camper.

After coffee on Sunday we returned to our home. It was a nice short weekend trip that was within an hour and a half from home. Another work week ahead of us until the next outing.

After another work week it was time to head up to the 238 Brewery for the weekend. It was Memorial Day weekend and Monday we were off too but we did not spend it in our camper. At the brewery there was to be an event on Saturday and there was some work to do to get things ready. So it was easier to have us, Cody and the dogs just camp out there so we could get an early start on Saturday.

Saturday morning started early for me, 430 AM early. I started with coffee then went into the brew house to clean kegs. Oh the glamorous job of cleaning kegs but it has to be done. There were lots of other things that needed to be done and Joanne and Lisa (owner of the brewery) would be getting stuff done as well. Today at the brewery there was to be two car clubs to show up, BBQ guys to cook up some awesome food and a musician to play for a few hours. Things all came together nicely and we even had about an hour before we opened to take a breather.

Everyone showed up as scheduled except for the two car clubs, not even a phone call. Pretty sad to not even call but the show must go on. We do not really need the car clubs to show, it was just another nice draw for our customers to spend time looking at.

The day was filled with great food from the BBQ guys and the music was terrific from the musician. Of course the beer was pretty darn great as well. The crowds came and went and in the end it was a pretty darn busy day.

One thing that was very inportant for us to do on this weekends event was to raise money for the Womens Wounded Warriors. It was a pleasure to have a booth set up for them and donations were made.  A percentage of sales on one of the beers went towards that donation as well. It is Memorial Day weekend and while it is in remembrance of those heroes who never made it back home we wanted to do something for the military personnel. The Heroes.

The day was winding down and there was a call to the brewery that a “party bus” was coming and seeing if we were open and giving us notice, that was nice. We said sure we are open and come on down. You could hear the music from the bus a half a mile away and the when it got to the brewery the crowd came running out. We poured beer like a mad man and got through the rush just fine, we had a great 3 person team! The party bus crowd was pretty darn funny and they were having a good time. They even did gunny sack (garbage bags were used) races outside. We all had our laughs and they soon departed.

It was not mlong after the brewery closed that I went to the camper and passed out, I was very tired. It was a long day but a fun day.

On Sunday we went to the grange to have breakfast then we worked at the brewery again for a while. We ended up closing a couple hours early as we had blown several kegs from the weekend. We got things cleaned up and went home. Another fun weekend even if it was work, fun work. Another couple days out with the camper is always great!
