Very cold weather was hitting our area for a few days, so what do we do? We get the camper out of course. We set out to 49 Degrees North Ski Resort for the weekend. We left early Saturday morning and arrived at the resort about 7 am. The resort has 8 sites with power that are first come first served. They charge $18.00 per night and $8.00 for no power sites. We did end up getting a power site, there was two other RV’s there already. The start of the day was a balmy 1F out at home. It never did get much warmer through the day…8F for a high at the resort.
We got power hooked up and settled in the camper for a couple hours until the resort would open for the day. Joanne made us breakfast and we listened to music until it was time to strap on the skis.
There was not many people at the resort today, it was pretty darn cold though. We went out and skied two runs then went back to the lodge to warm up. At the lodge there was a beer festival going on. It was a fundraiser for the kids race team. What better way to support the kids than drink beer? Well, it gave another reason to sit inside and warm up.
I ended up going out only three different times getting six runs in on the mountain. It was really cold. We had a good time tasting the beer that several breweries brought. Too bad there was not more people for the fundraiser though. We did our best to support the…uh…kids.
We went back to the camper about 4 pm and had dinner. We listened to music and read and were soon asleep. The camper kept us all nice and cozy warm throughout the night.
The next morning would be a bit warmer starting off the day at near 10F. We got our skis on and hit the slopes. We only did a half day today and wanted to return back home. There was a Christmas event we wanted to attend to in Spokane. We have season passes so getting a few runs in then leaving is not a big deal. Heck, I only have to ski another 2 days and the season pass has paid for itself already.
The camper did perfectly fine in the cold temperatures. This trip was not even the coldest weather we have camped in. When it is this cold, I do winterize the water system though. We still use the bathroom but just pour in some RV antifreeze to flush. When the weather stays up in the 20’s I then will use the water system since the tanks are heated. I just do not want to chance it when it is as cold as it was.
We will be back skiing at the resort for Christmas day. We will not take the camper for that outing but we plan on staying up there in the camper for New Years Eve weekend. We actually will be spending a lot of our weekends up at 49 Degrees North this winter.
